The Incan Goldenberry (Physalis peruviana) is native to South America but cultivated and known more commonly around
the world as Cape Gooseberries. In fact, it was one of the few non-native fresh fruits available to the early Western
settlers of east coast Australia.
Fresh berries are bright yellow and very sweet when ripe and, in their lantern-like husks, are used in decorative gourmet dessert dishes.
Goldenberries have a delicious tangy flavour and are a source of Vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B6, B12, fibre, phosphorus, calcium, and pectin. They also hae a high protein count and are a good source of bioflavonoids (vitamin P) considered to have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-viral properties.
